提升英文閱讀速度(二)

前一篇寫了用速讀的一些原則提升英文閱讀速度，然而並不是每篇文章、每本書都要用快速讀法，培根Of Study那篇文章的一句話"Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested; that is, some books are to be read only in parts; others to be read, but not curiously; and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention."是最好的註解。

提升英文閱讀速度

閱讀英文時常要查單字?分析句型、文法?花在分析文法、查單字的時間，總是耗掉了大半精力？要解決這個問題、提升英文閱讀速度，速讀(speed reading)的原理可供我們參考。

not...because...的語意

because這個連接詞大家耳熟能詳，但是在閱讀或寫作時將not和because連用，若不加注意，可能會造成很大的誤解，請看下面例句：

[1] She didn't marry him because of his money.

[2] They didn't sack him because he was crazy, but because of his attitude.

[3] Raven didn't leave the party early because Carol was there.

[4] Raven didn't leave the party early, because Carol was there.

使用Macmillan English Dictionary光碟版增加字彙量

在英文寫作時，常常遇到詞不達意，或是只會用general words使得詞彙使用不夠精確，這時如果有Thesaurus查詢更精確的字就方便多了，所幸現在查詢這類同義字很方便，朗文字典(Longman Contemporary English Dictionary)光碟版裡收錄的Activator就很好用，另外麥克米倫字典也有相同功能，以下簡單介紹用麥克米倫字典光碟版查詢同義字的方式。
